SpywareBlaster is an anti spyware and adware program for Microsoft Windows. Spyware Blaster blocks the installation of most ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers and other unwanted programs from the user's computer. Spyware Blaster protects you against them, blocking the installation of ActiveX-based malware and other types of spyware, and eradicating tracking cookies that might otherwise invade your privacy.
The program works with Firefox, Opera, or Internet Explorer, and it prevents your browser from being diverted to dangerous sites. It can also block spyware/tracking cookies in IE, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, and many other browsers, and restrict the actions of spyware/ad/tracking sites. SpywareBlaster also includes a System Snapshot feature, which lets you take a snapshot of your computer in its clean state and later revert, undoing many changes made by spyware and browser hijackers.
SpywareBlaster works by blacklisting the CLSID of known malware programs, effectively preventing them from infecting a protected computer. SpywareBlaster is currently released as freeware, for non-commercial users. However, a feature called AutoUpdate is available for a price. The AutoUpdate feature simply checks for and installs any updates for SpywareBlaster. This feature is not included in the freeware due to the high bandwidth cost it causes.
