Encryption is need of the hour in the growing cyber space,as number of cyber criminals are on alarming rate. In recent times ,computer security ,securing data, preventing hacking, malware preventing scammers, viruses,Trojans and even sometimes phishing was a hot matter of discussions as scammers are targeting everything for their financial gains.
Interestingly nowadays ,apart from normal users even corporates are facing the music and stuff from cyber criminals. As without accurate security no organization is safe in terms of sending and receiving mails, data sharing etc.
Before discussing some pros’s and cons of Encryption in terms of computer security, lets study how encryption is applied ?
A Survey reveals that Only 10 percent of corporates around the world are using encryption technologies .
-Best way to apply encryption is to purchase the branded Encryption software.
Even the branded hardware products can be good choice which supports encryption technologies.
Genuine security suites or anti virus product is the best selection in terms of dual security support system.
-Reputed anti virus vendor like kaspersky lab, symantec, soft twin,Avg etc supports encryption technology.even hardware vendors like Hitachi, samsung ,barracuda are no far behind implementing encryption technology in their latest products.
- Leading encryption vendors and products include Microsoft,PGP, open-source TrueCrypt, DESlock+, Namo FileLock and T3 Basic Security.
Advantages of Encryption :
-One advantage to encryption is that it separates the security of data from the security of the device where the data resides or the medium through which data is transmitted.
-Implementing encryption includes the elimination of the pain that comes with data breach disclosures, the provision of strong protection for intellectual property etc.
-The bottom line is that, very few people have the computer resources and skills needed to understand and crack an encrypted message.
-Encryption can be used to support our authentication, integrity, privacy, and non-repudiation objectives.
- private key encryption features following characteristics :
-Backed up and recoverable
-Protected against theft with encrypted data
-Accessible from many systems
-Accessible only to the authorized user .
-Latest kind of feature which encryption technology supports is digital signatures or digital certificates i.e very much on demand among the corporates against data pilfering, and against all security threats etc..
.This certificates can be obtained by CA Which is direct authority and which authenticates and creates a certificate in digital format .
The certificate might contain :
-Unique name
-Validity of certificate.
-issues public key
-Manual guide for instructions
Digital signatures provide a way to protect the integrity of a digital document and to verify who signed it. The document in question could be anything for example an email message, a file on a floppy disk, or the information in a personal certificate.
Some disadvantages of encryption technology :
-One Flip side regarding encryption technology can be common and i.e complex method or technology.
-Encryption is all about the game of keys like private key or public key. There fore security of data becomes the security of encryption key.
-Sometimes reduces over all system performance.
.
-if total encryption security or technology implemented it needs training for the employees.
-If poor encryption key implemented, sometimes results or invites hackers attack or malware attack on the system.
-Even sometimes we have to monitor validity in case of digital certificate, that can be flip side.
Care ful planing and implementation of encryption in the organization leads to successful management of security. If lacked in terms of proper planing or in implement ion, it leads to unmanageable and sometimes even difficult for the user.
There fore a proper plan ,do, check and act of encryption can prevent security threats.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackOne overlooked challenge of encryption is the management of it. Often, the largess enterprises of the world have tens of thousands of keys and certs. Keeping track of them is the full-time employ of many a InfoSec or IT Ops team. Trying to keep track of these via a manual process (e.g. Excel spreadsheet) is un-envialble and downright risky. There are better ways folks!
